His Passion started at age 18 when he went to enlist in the armed services, only to be told that the defect in his heart was so bad that he could not join! A determined young man James Salva decided to find another way to help his country. With a strong love for canines he had possessed since he was a child, he began to research who were training dogs for the military and who was the very best in all canine training and problem solving fields!

It is no wonder that his search lead him to the world famous "Jack Healy" one of the military's leading canine trainers and animal behaviorist. Jack Healy involved in the W.W.II canine training programs, went on to become a leading author and lecturer in the field of " Canine Training and Behavior Problem Solving".

James Salva met Jack Healy at the age of 21 such a tight bond was formed between these two men that after his graduation from Jack's trainers school, the two became partners and opened the world famous United States K-9 Academy School of Dog Training.

The school remained open in multiple locations from 1972, beyond Jack's passing, until 1999 when at the age of 57 James had to undergo a full aortic bypass, his health and recovery forcing the close of the Academy.
